Taxpatria will participate in the upcoming U.S. Readiness Bootcamp, organized by Belgian-American Chamber of Commerce, taking place on 5 May in Leuven.
This full-day event brings together founders, advisors, and experts to guide Belgian companies in their expansion to the United States, covering topics such as go-to-market strategy, legal structuring, tax, accounting, and hiring.
Our Contribution
During this session, Gregory Goossens will provide a focused overview of the tax and legal implications for Belgian companies sending employees to the United States, as well as for individuals pursuing professional opportunities abroad.
The session will primarily focus on personal income taxation, social security, and cross-border considerations from a Belgian perspective, rather than U.S. domestic tax rules.
The session will address, among others:
• Cross-border structuring between Belgium and the U.S.
• Employee mobility and temporary assignments to the U.S.
• Personal income tax implications in Belgium (departure, presence abroad, and return)
• Social security positioning and coordination (Belgium vs. U.S.)
• Belgian tax residency and exit tax considerations
• Key compliance pitfalls for individuals working abroad and upon return to Belgium
The objective is to provide practical, experience-based insights that allow companies and individuals to structure these situations correctly from the outset and avoid costly corrections later, with a particular focus on Belgian taxation throughout the full lifecycle (departure, time abroad, and return).
Why This Matters
Expanding into the United States—whether as a company or as an individual—offers significant opportunities, but also introduces complex tax and social security implications.
From payroll structuring and social security coverage to double taxation and re-entry into the Belgian tax system, early-stage decisions often have long-term consequences.
This session aims to bridge the gap between strategy and implementation, ensuring that Belgian entrepreneurs and internationally mobile individuals are not only ready commercially, but also structurally and fiscally aligned with Belgian and cross-border requirements.
